Vilanculos is served by an international airport with daily connections to Johannesburg with Pelican Air, Maputo and other major destinations in Mozambique with LAM Airlines and Durban twice a week with Swazi Air (via Swaziland).

The public bus system carries passengers both South and North, running every day. However the roads are not always in the best conditions so be aware of this when planning your journey. The journey time from Maputo to Vilanculos is approximately 10 hours.

If travelling by car, leaded petrol and diesel are readily available throughout Mozambique, and unleaded petrol is becoming easier to find.

One month visas are issued at the border or airport. Alternativley they can be organised before entering the country at any Mozambique Embassy (South African passholders no longer require an entry visa).
