By Mozambique standards Vilanculos is a large town with the central area being located around the market. Fresh seasonal products are sold there, which can include mangoes, lychees and pineapples as well as locally grown vegetables. In the afternoon the fisherman sell their catch of the day consisting of calamari, Mozambique prawns, crayfish and a host of game fish. Fresh bread is baked daily and basic supplies can be obtained from the small supermarkets. If you don't want to cook yourself there is a wide variety of restaurants to choose from in town.

Other amenities in town include a post office, a telephone and internet centre and a pharmacy selling basic medicines.

There are 3 banks for change and 4 ATM's that accept VISA or Mastercard cards for withdrawing cash. Rand, US Dollars and Euros are easily changed, however Travellers Cheques are difficult to change anywhere in Mozambique.
